From Victoria to Tokyo

A conversation with Rio Kaneki, the printmaker behind our Pharaoh's Horses.
Rio Kaneki was born in Japan and made Victoria home. He works mostly in lino, carving every line by hand, and his prints now travel a long way from his studio, including back to Tokyo. Closer to home, his work is on our shirts, our bags and the wall of our building.
These days, a lot of what shapes his work comes from being a dad. He's teaching his young daughter Japanese, and watching cartoons through her eyes has changed how he sees colour, shape and story. We asked Rio about that, about slow work and early mornings, and about the piece he made for us. His answers are below, in his own words.
