Capsule coffee has long been associated with convenience. Press a button, get a cup, move on with your day. But historically, convenience and quality haven’t always gone hand in hand.
That’s changing.
In recent years, some of the specialty coffee companies we admire most in places like the UK and Australia have begun putting truly exceptional coffee into capsules. Around the same period, long-time colleagues of ours in the Canadian coffee community began building a capsule production facility equipped with state-of-the-art processing equipment — far beyond what had previously been available in Canada.
That combination made the opportunity clear. If capsule coffee could deliver the same flavour and integrity as the coffees we roast for whole bean, then it was worth exploring.
For us, the idea was never simply about convenience. It was about making great coffee easier to access, whether that’s at home on a busy morning or in a hotel room where consistency matters.
What Makes a Great Coffee Capsule?
At the end of the day, the most important ingredient in any capsule is the coffee itself.
From the beginning, we made the decision to use the exact same blends we offer as whole bean coffee. These coffees come from long-standing relationships with trusted partners in South and Central America and are all organically certified.
Rather than creating a separate tier of coffee for capsules, we wanted capsules to simply be another way to enjoy the coffees we already stand behind.
Each capsule contains 5 grams of freshly roasted coffee, carefully ground and sealed shortly after roasting to preserve flavour and aromatics.
Because we launched with our core blends, the flavour profiles are intentionally familiar and comforting — coffees you can return to every day.
Expect notes that are chocolatey, nutty, rich, and balanced.
Precision Behind the Scenes
Capsule brewing may look simple from the outside, but achieving consistency inside the capsule requires a high level of precision.
The grind of the coffee is one of the most important variables. In capsule production, grind size must be extremely consistent because it determines how water flows through the coffee during extraction.
Overseeing this process is the facility’s production manager, a former Canadian Barista Champion and seasoned coffee professional. While he has previously worked in green coffee buying earlier in his career, his role here focuses on managing the production process and ensuring quality control at every step.
Freshness Sealed In
Our capsules are sealed in recyclable aluminum, which provides one of the best barriers available against oxygen and light.
The coffee is processed into capsules within a week of roasting, helping capture the coffee at its peak.
Optimal freshness: up to 1 year
Food safety shelf life: up to 3 years
The Machines Behind the Cup
Our capsules are designed for Nespresso OriginalLine machines.
Capsule brewing removes many variables that come with traditional espresso preparation — no dialing in grinders or adjusting doses.
Perfect. Every. Time.
Capsules and Sustainability
Our capsules are made from fully recyclable aluminum, a material that can be recycled repeatedly without losing quality.
When capsules are properly recycled, capsule brewing can represent a relatively efficient brewing method, producing very little wasted coffee.
Versatility in the Cup
Our blends perform well as a concentrated espresso shot but also work beautifully as a longer cup — up to around 250 ml — while maintaining balance and sweetness.
Looking Ahead
Capsule coffee continues to evolve. In the future we would like to offer some of our single-origin coffees in capsule form, creating another way to experience exceptional coffees without worrying about them going stale too quickly.
At its best, capsule coffee simply makes great coffee easier to enjoy.
